The gateway to Sonoma County, Petaluma, once known as the “Egg Capital of the World'' was a shipping port and railway hub for almost 100 years. West Petaluma
Petaluma is divided by Highway 101 into West Petaluma and East Petaluma. Well-preserved pre-1906 buildings and Victorian Homes. West Petaluma has many tree lined streets and heritage homes. Original Victorian, Queen Anne, and Craftsman homes.
Phoenix Theatre once was an opera theatre2011 egg bowl was suspended for fighting Helen Putnam Park, Tolay Lake.

Petaluma History
The Petaluma Historical Library and Museum, once a Carnegie library, houses the indigenous Miwok history, and poultry and dairy industries. Fee exhibits Thursday through Sunday.
